Program Director - Pine Lake Camps (Eldora, IA)

The Program Director position is a year-round salaried position and is responsible for the creative design and coordinated, efficient implementation of all programmed camps. The particular duties of the Program Director may be frequently adjusted, supplemented and improved to accommodate the dynamic nature of camping ministry. This is a leadership position that provides a wide range of opportunities for professional development in the field of camp ministry. An ideal candidate displays interest in long-term investment in this or a similar field.

The Program Director is directly responsible to the Camp Director.

The Program Director supervises Program Assistants and Summer Counseling staff.

Qualifications:

  • Trust in Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, be growing spiritually and should feel called to nurture other staff in their daily walk with Jesus Christ.
  • Understand the Converge Affirmation of Faith
  • Must have experience in camp ministry
  • Enjoy working with children and be able to supervise and lead staff
  • Understand the necessity to be flexible and be eager to adjust schedules and responsibilities often
  • Able to work a flexible schedule in coordination with other staff including some evenings, holidays and weekends
  • Able to recognize needs and make every effort to meet them
  • Work efficiently with focus, dedication and determination to meet deadlines
  • Great communication skills and ability to offer exceptional customer service
  • Working knowledge of basic computer programs and ability to navigate newly introduced software
  • Willingness to take direction from others
  • Team player and willingness to serve others

Responsibilities:

September - December

1.             Work weekends supporting programmed and rental groups

2.             Be on call/host for various tri-season retreats

3.             Work with Guest Services and Maintenance Director to contact and hire additional staff for weekend                     retreats.

4.             Contact and book speakers and musicians for programmed events. The list of potential speakers needs           to be shared and approved by camp director before official documents are sent to speaker and the                     brochure gets sent to churches.

5.             Develop theme, program and promotional material and brochures for programmed retreats and have full             approval from the camp director.

6.             Develop theme, promotional video and summer brochure with camp director.

7.             Place all applications online by November 15.

8.             Interview and hire leadership staff for upcoming summer. Please share information bi-weekly with the                 camp director.

January May

1.             Cooperate with leadership staff to promote and hire summer counseling positions, keeping the camp                  director and executive team aware of applicants and needs.

2.             Schedule and lead bi-weekly meetings with summer leadership staff beginning no later than January

3.             Cooperate with leadership staff to develop summer programming which includes but is not limited to:         Age appropriate schedules, Skills Classes, Bible Exploration and various camp games/activities.

4.             Schedule, promote and lead summer staff meeting to be held in the spring.

5.             Schedule 4-6 promotional visits to churches during the spring. Work with camp director to make sure                 church presentations are not duplicated.

6.             Cooperate with camp director and leadership staff to develop staff training topics and schedule.

7.             Cooperate with leadership staff to develop 6 devotionals for summer staff.

8.             Work weekends in support of programmed and rental groups.

9.             Design and lead winter retreats.

10.                Lead executive staff devotionals as assigned

Summer

1.             Lead Staff Training for all summer staff

2.             Develop and organize worship team practice (participate as member of team only if necessary)

3.             Coordinate camp-wide games and activities

4.             Enforce rules of camp as necessary

5.             Coordinate and maintain lines of communication between program, maintenance and food service

6.             Prepare material for each of week of camp, such as housing assignments, life group resources, etc.

7.             Cooperate with office manager to facilitate weekly cabin updates and camp photos

8.             Manage counselor free time

9.             Lead morning counselor meeting.

10.                Responsible for preparing or delegating preparations of all summer programming elements.

11.                Lead opening and closing meetings of each camp week.

12.                Collect and communicate with Camp Director evaluations of faith stories and significant decision made at         the end of each week.

13.                Resolve or refer camper discipline or counseling conflicts

14.                Meet with leadership staff daily

15.                Lead and advise all staff with spiritual integrity

16.                Organize, prepare and facilitate various elements of daily programming

17.                Resolve or refer employee conflict

Additional Requirements and Expectations:

  • Because of the nature of the position, flexibility is absolutely required concerning the hours a candidate can work. Some weeks during the summer may require 60+ hours or work while others during the tri- season may require significantly less hours. The Program Director will be responsible to assist with various tasks throughout the year.
  • The Program Director is expected to positively represent Pine Lake Camps in all conversations while at work or away, to both guests and employees alike.
  • The Program Director will participate in a review every six months with the Camp Director
  • The Program Director must commit to fulfill a term beginning in September and concluding in August of the following year.
  • While this job will provide valuable experience in camp ministry, it should not be assumed that this position will lead to a full-time job at Pine Lake Camps. There is hope for the position to develop to such in the future, but there is no guarantee nor a distinguished timeline for this to occur.
